WHY THIS MATTERS

Social media is the task most likely to make you feel guilty for resting. Deciding your level now, on purpose, means you won't be posting from the hospital bed out of habit.

WHAT TO DO

Choose PAUSE, LIGHT or SCHEDULE. If you choose Light or Schedule, add a handful of posts to the content bank.

WHEN TO DO IT

Decide 8 weeks before leave. If scheduling, batch posts in one or two afternoons 4–6 weeks before.

PAUSE

I am not posting.

Do: one announcement post, update your bio and a pinned post, then log out.

LIGHT

I will occasionally post evergreen content.

Do: prepare 6–10 evergreen posts. Post one when you feel like it. No schedule.

SCHEDULE

I want posts prepared in advance.

Do: batch 1–2 posts a week and schedule them. Someone else handles comments, or no one does.

You are allowed to disappear.

Your followers will still be there. The algorithm will recover. Past clients will still recommend you. Photographers take leave and come back to full calendars all the time, often because they came back rested, with a story people connect with. Your account does not need to be fed while you feed your baby.
